About Japow Guides
Japow Guides is your gateway to Japan's premier ski and snowboard destinations. Curated by a Japan-based snowboarder—and dad of two. Resorts Tak has personally visited are marked "Visited" and carry his first-hand notes; the rest are summarized from public ski-area data and local reviews. Expect legendary Japow powder, tree runs, backcountry lines, side hits, and terrain parks — all at mountains that welcome families with open arms.
Our mission is straightforward: help riders worldwide unlock Japan's unparalleled powder experience. From the deep powder of Hakuba and Myoko to the easy-access resorts just outside Tokyo, we give you the details you need—whether you're a first-timer after mellow groomers or a seasoned shredder chasing steeps and deeps.
Plan your perfect trip, hit the slopes with confidence, and discover why Japan belongs on every skier's and snowboarder's bucket list.

How We Select Resorts
Japow Guides covers resorts at two levels. Resorts Tak has personally visited are marked "Visited" and carry his first-hand notes. Every other resort has a data-only summary, compiled from public ski-area data and local reviews and clearly labelled "Based on local data and reviews." We add first-hand notes over time as Tak visits more resorts.
For resorts Tak has ridden, we evaluate:
- Powder quality and snow consistency across the season
- Family friendliness — kids' programs, beginner terrain, on-site childcare
- English accessibility — signage, ski school, and staff communication
- Ease of access from Tokyo and major international airports
- Value for money — lift tickets, rentals, and accommodation
About the data-only summaries:
- Structural facts (lifts, vertical drop, location) come from OpenSkiMap; operating dates and course counts from each resort's published information.
- They carry no first-hand impressions until Tak has visited — the page badge makes the difference clear.
- Every figure is tied to its source.
We're actively expanding — first-hand reviews are added throughout the season as Tak rides more resorts.

Why Japan?
Japan is renowned worldwide for its exceptional powder snow, often referred to as "Japow" by the international skiing community. The combination of cold Siberian air and warm ocean currents creates perfect conditions for light, fluffy powder snow that's a dream to ski through.
Beyond the incredible snow quality, Japan offers a unique cultural experience. From traditional hot springs (onsen) to world-class cuisine, your ski trip becomes a complete cultural immersion. The hospitality and attention to detail in Japanese ski resorts is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
Whether you're looking for the vast interconnected resorts of Hakuba Valley, the traditional charm of Nozawa Onsen, or the deep powder of Myoko, Japan has a resort to match every preference and skill level.
