One of the snowiest resorts in northern Japan
Geto Kogen gets very heavy snow. The resort says the snow piled at the top can reach about 20 m over a season. Because of this deep snow, the season is long and usually runs from late November to early May. Families who travel in spring can still find good snow here when many lower resorts have closed.
Gentle beginner runs and a dedicated kids park
About 40% of the courses are rated for beginners. There is a gentle lower slope used for first-time skiers and beginner lessons, with soft poles for small children. There is also a kids park. Families can stay on the easier lower runs, while stronger skiers ride the gondolas to the longer terrain above.
A large open-air bath after skiing
The base has a natural hot spring, Geto Kogen Onsen, with a large open-air bath and a sauna. There is ski-in, ski-out lodging next to the slopes, so it is easy to stay overnight and soak after a day on the snow. This makes Geto a good choice for a relaxed family trip rather than a day trip.
