One of the widest beginner slopes near Tokyo
Iwappara is famous for its wide main slope, which fans out from the mountainside. About 40% of the courses are for beginners, and the long, gentle runs let new skiers ride a long way without steep sections. The longest run is about 4,000 m. This open, wide layout makes it one of the easiest resorts near Tokyo for families and first-time skiers.
Kids Paradise and one of Japan's largest sled runs
There is a large kids play area called Kids Paradise, with a variety of snow toys, plus a sled course that is one of the largest of its kind in Japan. A snow escalator is set up on the lesson court so children do not have to climb the slope. There is also a day hot spring nearby for after skiing.
About 90 minutes by train, plus evening runs
Iwappara is about 90 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, then a short shuttle. The wide lower slope stays open for night skiing, which is a gentle place for beginners to try skiing in the evening. Rental gear from a well-known brand is available, and children's sets include a helmet.
