About two hours from the Tokyo area
Kawaba is one of the closest high-elevation resorts to Tokyo. It sits high on the mountain, so the snow is dry and light for the Kanto region. The longest run is about 3,300 m. This makes it a popular day-trip choice for people based near Tokyo who want decent snow without a long drive.
An easy base for families and day trips
The base building, called Kawaba City, has restaurants and shops and is known for good food. Next to it is a large multi-level covered car park with toilets and changing rooms on each floor. The covered car park is helpful on heavy snow days, and it makes arriving and leaving with children simpler.
A famous mogul course and three parks
Kawaba has a well-known mogul course that has helped train national-team skiers, plus three snow parks and an ungroomed off-piste area. About half the courses are intermediate. Stronger skiers and snowboarders tend to enjoy Kawaba more than complete beginners, although there are some easier runs as well.
