Ride the gondola and ski 5.5 km down
Appi is famous for its long runs. The longest is 5,500 meters. Many of these long runs are graded for beginners, so even new skiers can take the gondola to the top and ski all the way to the base. This is rare at a resort this large, and it lets families of different levels ski the same runs together.
Cold, light snow because of the north-facing slopes
Appi sits at latitude 40 degrees north, and its slopes face north. This keeps the snow cold and dry. The resort is known for some of the best snow quality in the Tohoku region. There are also tree-run areas and an ungroomed course for stronger skiers.
Stay at the base and reach the slopes easily
Appi has large hotels at the base of the mountain, so you can stay close to the lifts. There is a kids snow park, a childcare room, and ski schools, including a children's ski school. Parking is free with 3,000 spaces. The resort is set up for families and foreign visitors, which makes the logistics simpler.
