Kandatsu Kogen is a ski resort in Niigata, Japan. It has 6 lifts and about 500 m of vertical drop.
My recommendation
Kandatsu is one of the easiest resorts to reach from Tokyo: the free shuttle from Echigo-Yuzawa Station is short, so moving with kids and gear is simple. The base building is new and clean, with a hot spring inside, and I saw many families from Asia here. The main slope is wide and gentle, so beginners feel safe. My 8-year-old son said the park was his favorite, with small, friendly jumps where a first-timer can try safely. One honest note: weekends get very busy.

The base building is modern and clean, and there is a hot spring inside. The resort has 16 courses and 6 lifts, with about 500 m of vertical drop. The main slope is wide and gentle, which is good for beginners and children. Kandatsu is also well known for its terrain park. The park has large jumps for experts, but it also has small, friendly jumps, so it is a good place to try park riding for the first time. There is more to explore too, such as mogul runs and natural features across the slopes. The season usually runs from December to April. One thing to keep in mind: weekends can get very crowded.
